How to start your own fashion label.

how to start your own fashion label.

Today I undertook a course in "how to start your own fashion label" with my friend Ryan. Absolutely loved it. We were sponges taking it all in, great teacher who runs her own label & has plenty of experience in Australia and outsourcing work to overseas.

I wondered how much we would get out of a day long course, surprisingly ALOT. Lots of check points we know to look out for, lots of things to think about.

Really looking forward to working on a collection over the next year.

I am concentrating student. Ever conscientious.

Ryan concentrating hard. Prior to us being publicly shushed by a class member. Unnecessary.

A delicious lunch time beverage to wash down all the knowledge.

Self explanatory.

Mmmm morning tea.

I took lots of notes.

Soooo the boys I have worked with doing some styling for, the Sydney electro trio FORCED PERSPECTIVE, have unleashed their new website, and I have to say it looks pretty damned TIGHT. Check it http://www.forcedperspective.com.au/index.htm

Carlie.

Carlie is modelling this amazing bib I bought in NYC on Bleeker at this VERY tight store called "Sucre". The piece is by Lisa Soltis, an LA based artist who deconstructs vintage leather jackets to create these one of a kind pieces. Jusr delicious. I knew I HAD to have it as soon as I saw it!

Kate.

Kate posed in some more shots for me, love her. In my now defunct Surry Hills home studio ; ) - end of an era now as I've now moved out (good 6 month stint.)

Check out the middle bangle worn by Kate in the shots, it's clear with gorgeous tiny bows inside! A gift from my brother, designed and hand made by his friends who run the "ït was me" label in Sydney. Their pieces are just divine!! http://www.itwasmecreations.com/

Love Meredith's eye yet again of course. Check out her work at http://www.artbylynch.blogspot.com/

An absolutely divine fashionista friend of mine,Chloe agreed to pose for some shots for for a styling competition. My chosen theme was "Prints & Metallics" so I DEFINITELY wanted her flaunting her golden harem pants. Just stunning.

I was very lucky to have my treasure of a friend & very gifted artist Meredith Frances Lynch take the photos for me. Her very gifted eye captured the look brilliantly. You can find out more about Meredith & her works here - http://www.artbylynch.blogspot.com/

I look forward to uploading more photos from this session over the coming weeks!

Finally with Fashion Illustration.

So had my final class in Fashion Illustration. Our assignment was to sketch and paint a full fashion figure, A3 size within the class time so we could see how far we'd come. I still have to finish her dress and jacket but it's pretty much done, so I'll share it with you all!

Out & About...to the Bruno Benini Exhibition

It was my birthday this week! A friend and I took in the exquisite sights at the Bruno Benini photpgraphy exhibition at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum. Unfortunately I could only take some snaps with my iPhone so they are grainy but you get the gist. This was an absolutely breaktaking exhibition which surpassed the 80s exhibition and Frockstars exhibitions we also took in that day there.

It was meant to of finished on 15 August so you can imagine our delight when we discovered it still open, with only a couple of other punters wandering about. If you have a chance, GET THERE. Or check out my grainy pics. He is a treasure with an amazing eye.

Learning Face.

Second lesson, we did the FACE! I still want to work on this quite a bit! Doing a large face is far easier than the fiddly heads on the fashion figure which are often little bigger than 4cm long.

We also learnt how to do hair...naturally I asked the teacher to show me how to do my haircut...because it's simply the most amazing do ever.

My first sketch.

Ah what a momentous occassion. Whilst words never fail me, my ability to put ideas onto paper in a creative and art-like form do...hence me taking this class! So I was pretty happy that my first sketch resembled a person! But of course, a long way to go! Got to start somewhere....
